HAMMOND, La. – One of the nation’s top punters and a dynamic return game highlights the No. 16/17 Southeastern Louisiana University football team’s special teams units\

Punter Austin Dunlap returns for his fourth season at SLU. The Slidell, Louisiana native has averaged 43.5 yards per punt over the past two years, only left off the FCS national leaderboard each season by the high-powered offense preventing him from punting enough to reach the minimum attempts to qualify for national rankings\

\

Dunlap and camisetas de futbol third-year starter at long snapper Korey Karbowsky are among the Lions head coach Frank Scelfo has the most confidence in heading into the 2022 season\

“Austin’s had a great fall camp,” Scelfo commented. “He’s an All-American punter and he’s the one guy who I hope doesn’t get many opportunities to show what he can do again this season. He’s one of the best punters in the country. Korey is just steady and dependable. We feel really good about those two spots.\

\

Reigning Southland Conference Freshman of the Year Gage Larvadain averaged 26.6 yards per kickoff return last fall on the way to being the first team All-Southland Conference and All-Louisiana selection at return specialist. Larvadain is one of numerous playmaking options in the return game\

“We feel like we have a lot of good options in the return game,” Scelfo said. “Gage, camisetas de futbol baratas Darius Lewis, Mannie Logan-Greene, Markell Linzer, Terrell Carter and Ferlando Jordan are all guys who can help us in that area. We feel really good about the explosive depth we have in the return game.\

Mateo Rengifo returns at kicker after connecting on 19 of 25 field goals in his first two seasons with the Lions. He’s competing for the job with freshmen Riley Callaghan and Alec Mahler\

“Kicker is one of our most wide-open positions,” Scelfo commented. “We’re still looking for someone to show the consistency we need at that position.\

\

The 2022 season of Inside Southeastern Football with Frank Scelfo debuts Sunday. The show will air weekly on the radio home of SLU Football – Kajun 107.1 FM, The Highway 104.7 FM and The Boss 103.7 FM/1400 AM. Hosted by Scelfo and Allen Waddell, the hour-long show will feature the latest on all things Lion Football\

\

The debut episode is set for Sunday, Aug. 28 at 3 p.m. at Gnarly Barley Brewing (1709 Corbin Rd.) in Hammond. Pour House Pizza and Beer Garden (505 W. Thomas St.) will serve as the host for the remainder of the season. With the Monday after the season opener doubling as Labor Day, the first show at Pour House will be Tuesday, Sept. 6 at 7 p.m. Starting Sept. 12, the show will air from Pour House on Mondays at 7 p.m. through Nov. 21\

Southeastern opens the 2022 season Sept. 3 at UL Lafayette in a 6 p.m. contest. The home opener is set for Sept. 17 versus Central Connecticut State\
